The Indian government issued a notice to Wikipedia on Tuesday due to various complaints regarding bias and inaccuracies on the site.

In a correspondence to the online encyclopedia, the government pointed out that a small number of editors seem to wield considerable influence over the content, which could affect its neutrality, according to sources.

This new scrutiny follows a critical remark from the Delhi High Court about two months ago, where it warned Wikipedia of a possible ban in India amid a lawsuit from news agency Asian News International (ANI), which alleged that its Wikipedia page included inaccuracies and defamatory information.

During the latest session on November 1, the court challenged Wikipedia's claim of being a "free encyclopedia" and stressed that, as an "intermediary" instead of a "publisher," Wikipedia should provide the necessary information when requested.

The government's remarks have ignited a lively discussion on social media, with some individuals defending Wikipedia's credibility while others share concerns about potential bias.
